Council Member Phil Wong sent a letter to Chancellor Kamar Samuels on Wednesday, April 29, calling for a delay in the release and implementation of the New York City Public Schools Artificial Intelligence (AI) Playbook, citing concerns over “limited public input and the potential impact on students’ learning and development,” according to a press release.
In his letter, Wong emphasized that while AI will play an important role in future school programming, the current timeline does not allow for adequate engagement with parents, educators, and students, particularly with the feedback period set to close on Friday, May 8.
