Council Member Joann Ariola and GrowNYC hosted a week-long series of fresh produce distributions for Glendale, Woodhaven, Howard Beach, Ozone Park and Rockaway Park residents from Monday, April 20 to Friday, April 24, providing approximately 900 fresh food shares to families in need.
In collaboration with the District 32 representative, the food initiative is part of GrowNYC’s Food for Families project and “highlights the ongoing need for fresh food access as food costs rise and ongoing SNAP reductions continue to impact New Yorkers,” according to a media advisory. GrowNYC is a 501(c)(3) environmental non-profit organization focused on access to local produce in New York City. The produce is sourced from farmers and community gardens to promote food justice.
