Heartbreaking testimony from EMS leaders at City Council hearing as union pushes for better pay, end to staffing crisis

Powerful, emotional public testimony from the city’s Emergency Medical Service leaders sparked outrage and renewed urgency in the department’s decades-long fight to be paid on par with other city first responders.

EMS and union leaders described a department stretched thin and hemorrhaging overworked and underpaid emergency medical responders, causing an alarming rise in ambulance response times and worse outcomes for New Yorkers experiencing emergency medical crises. President of Local 2507 Michael Greco, representing uniformed EMTs, paramedics and fire inspectors with FDNY, strongly warned City Council members of the consequences for continuing to delay pay raises for EMS workers.
