CM Ariola introduces legislation to notify New Yorkers when EMS is facing severe backlogs

Council Member Joann Ariola has introduced legislation that would issue emergency notifications to New Yorkers when the city’s EMS system is experiencing severe delays.

Intro 990, also known as the “Minutes Matter Bill,” seeks to tackle what Ariola described as the growing issue of EMS backlogs, with the Queens council member stating that the legislation is in response to the “extremely high level” of held EMS calls in recent months – referring to when an emergency call is put on hold in a queue until a crew becomes available.
