Dems may have flipped one seat to narrow Nassau GOP legislative majority

Democrats may have flipped a Republican seat in the Nassau County Legislature, potentially narrowing the GOP majority to just one vote, depending upon how an anticipated recount turns out.

Nassau County Legis. Scott Strauss (R-Mineola) is trailing Democratic challenger and longtime Herricks school board member Juleigh Chin, who leads the incumbent by 106 votes, according to unofficial early returns tallied by the Nassau County Board of Elections. Republicans currently hold an 11-8 majority in the chamber, but if Chin unseats Strauss, GOP control narrows to 10-9, which could be a challenge for the chamber’s leadership and their ally, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman.
