A federal judge has reduced former Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano’s sentence to 10 years, two years less than his original sentence, more than a year and a half after an appeals court threw out part of his conviction in connection with a loan scheme that involved the Town of Oyster Bay while Mangano was in office.
U.S. District Judge Joan M. Azrack ruled on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Central Islip federal court that Mangano would serve two fewer years in prison than he was originally sentenced to in 2022. She said Mangano’s actions did “incalculable harm,” and that the sentence was appropriate and should serve as a deterrent to other elected officials from using their power for personal gain.
