Nassau officials are pushing back against Liberty Utilities’ request to increase water rates, which could lead some county residents to pay more than $28 a month in extra utility costs.
Liberty Utilities filed a request with the state Public Service Commission on May 29 seeking substantial rate increases for its Long Island customers. If approved, the proposal would increase the average monthly residential bill by about $27.77 for many customers in Liberty’s Lynbrook-area system, $26.89 in the Sea Cliff district and $21.20 in the Merrick district, according to the filing.
