CM Wong calls for transparency and parent outreach on proposed lithium-ion battery facility near P.S./I.S. 128 in Middle Village

On Thursday, June 4, Council Member Phil Wong announced that he has sent a letter to District 24 Superintendent Anthony Rivera seeking answers regarding the apparent lack of communication with parents about a proposed lithium-ion battery energy storage facility to be located directly across the street from P.S./I.S. 128 in Middle Village.

The letter follows concerns raised by parents both at a recent community rally opposing the project on Tuesday, June 2, and through direct outreach to Wong’s District Office. Numerous parents were said to have notified Wong about their unawareness of the proposal until hearing about it through outreach conducted by his District Office, the Juniper Park Civic Association (JPCA) and other community organizations. “Hundreds of residents attended the June 2 rally opposing the project,” a press release claimed.
