CM Wong calls on DOE to explain State Math Exam failures

Council Member Phil Wong sent a formal letter to New York City Public Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels on Wednesday, May 27, demanding answers following widespread technical failures during the 2026 New York State Mathematics Exam.

The exam, which was administered online to students in grades 3 through 8 on Wednesday, April 29, experienced significant disruptions across the state, including “login issues that prevented many students from properly completing the test,” according to a press release.
