Council Member Phil Wong is calling on the New York City Department of Education (DOE) to “take the next step in improving classroom focus by reviewing the use of laptops and tablets in schools, following the implementation of the state’s “bell-to-bell” cell phone restrictions,” as stated in a press release.
In a letter sent to Chancellor Kamar Samuels on Tuesday, April 28, Wong acknowledged that restricting personal devices during the school day was a positive initiative, but stressed that broader concerns around screen time remain.
