Errol D. Toulon, Jr., has served as Suffolk County’s sheriff since 2018, and with a doctorate in Educational Administration and an advanced certificate in Homeland Security Management, there’s no one more qualified to weigh in on issues of public safety, gun violence, and school security. In just his first year, Sheriff Toulon launched the Sandy Hook Promise School Safety Initiative, which educates students, school faculty, and community members to recognize and report signs of distress, especially those posted on social media. Now in his second term, this Sheriff Dr. is tackling recidivism with the START (Sheriff’s Transition and Reentry Team) Resource Center, which assists individuals to reenter their communities after incarceration.
