Congresswoman-elect Claire Valdez celebrated election night victories with her fellow members of the Democratic Socialists of America at the Bohemian Beer Garden in Astoria on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
It was her decision to run for the House of Representatives seat of the retiring Nydia Velázquez that paved the way for Samantha Kattan to replace her in Albany after she was unopposed on Tuesday. She joins newcomer David Orkin, who easily defeated Republican Ruben D. Cruz II, after he defeated Assemblymember Jenifer Rajkumar in the June Democratic primary election with nearly 60% of the vote.
