Letitia James appoints outside counsel to lead Cornell University rape case

New York Attorney General Letitia James has appointed a former federal prosecutor to lead “a fair and comprehensive criminal investigation” into the alleged sexual assault at Cornell University in Oct. 2024.

Jacqueline Kelly, who previously served as chief of the Civil Rights Unit in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, will serve as outside counsel overseeing the investigation, James announced on Wednesday, one day after she secured re-election as attorney general.
