New Yorkers are making their voices heard at the ballot box on Election Day Tuesday, with brisk turnouts reported thus far in the crucial midterm contests for governor, Congressional seats and statewide offices.
According to New York City Board of Elections data, approximately 163,518 voters had checked in at more than 13,000 polling places across the five boroughs in the three hours since the polls opened at 6 a.m. on Nov. 3. That amounts to 23.9% of the 690,526 New Yorkers who voted early between Oct. 24 and Nov. 1; the early voting turnout marked a 60% increase from the 2022 midterms, in which Democrat Kathy Hochul was elected to her first full term as governor.
