Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s plan to replace the head of New York City’s independent racial equity watchdog has been delayed until at least next summer after City Council members pushed back against removing its current chair.
Mamdani confirmed Wednesday that Linda Tigani, whose commission has challenged his administration’s handling of the city’s first racial equity plan, would remain in her post until next summer, when he hopes to install Christopher Alexander, executive director of the NAACP New York State Conference, as her successor.
