Council Committees hold joint oversight hearing probing claims of ‘inhumane’ conditions at Borden Avenue veterans shelter

The City Council’s Committees on Veterans and General Welfare held a marathon joint oversight hearing on Wednesday, attempting to shine a light on the “real issues” that veterans in New York City are facing, as well as examining conditions at the Borden Avenue veterans shelter in Long Island City.

The joint oversight hearing took place just a few weeks after Council Members Phil Wong and Julie Won attempted to enter the Borden Avenue Veterans Residence to conduct an unannounced oversight inspection after hearing concerns from residents about conditions inside the building.
