Four days after Bruce Blakeman stood onstage with President Donald Trump declaring “we love Donald J. Trump,” Gov. Kathy Hochul spent their lone debate Tuesday night pressing her Republican challenger over that alliance — prompting him to explain his rally rhetoric as an effort to get the crowd “worked up” and revise his answer on the greatest president of his lifetime.
Throughout campaign season, Hochul has tried to make Blakeman answer for his ties to Trump, while Blakeman has sought to make Mamdani a liability for the governor. But on the debate stage at NY1, Trump and Mamdani hardly received equal attention.
