Questions remain over renovation of Passerelle Boardwalk as US Open returns to Flushing Meadows Corona Park

In many ways, the Passerelle Boardwalk extending from the Mets-Willets Point subway station toward Flushing Meadows Corona Park is symbolic of the issues facing the sprawling park it leads to.

A relic of a bygone time, the 1930s-era walkway is in need of renovation, but has instead relied on piecemeal repairs in recent years to allow pedestrians to continue using it as they travel to the US Open from the subway station or to Citi Field from the nearby Long Island Rail Road station.
