Hochul appeals to Trump over TPS, warns ‘hundreds of essential employees’ could lose jobs

Gov. Kathy Hochul said she, like Mayor Zohran Mamdani, personally appealed to President Donald Trump over Temporary Protected Status, warning that its rollback could force state and local governments to dismiss hundreds of public employees.

Hochul disclosed her conversation with Trump in an Aug. 14 letter to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, first reported Monday by POLITICO and later released by the governor’s office.
