Great Neck Plaza residents raise concerns over proposed rental apartment development at historic church site

More than 30 residents attended a Village of Great Neck Plaza public hearing Wednesday night as developers unveiled plans for a four-story, 64-unit apartment building at the site of the former St. Paul’s Episcopal Church property at 68 Grace Ave., prompting concerns about traffic, parking, pedestrian safety, the project’s scale and its effect on neighborhood character.

The proposal, submitted by The Daten Group, calls for the construction of a four-story rental apartment building containing 64 units, including affordable housing units required under the village code. The development would preserve the exterior of the historic Tudor Revival-style church, constructed in 1922, and the landmarked Liberty Oak, planted in 1918 to mark the end of World War I, while incorporating both into the new residential complex.
