Elected officials and community representatives gathered in Corona on June 10 for a street co-naming ceremony honoring Brazilian soccer legend Pelé and his impact on the game.
Council Member Shanel Thomas-Henry joined Council Speaker Julie Menin, Council Member Virginia Maloney, World Cup Czar Maya Handa, Assembly Member Larinda Hooks and New York City Chief Operating Officer Jen O’Sullivan to co-name a section of Shea Road near Flushing Meadows Corona Park as “Pelé Way” in honor of the three-time World Cup winner.
