Campaign Insiders is PoliticsNY’s latest Q&A series featuring candidates running for office in the 2026 New York primary election. This edition of Campaign Insiders features Tunisia Morrison who is running to represent New York’s 32nd Assembly District. The 32nd Assembly District is located in Queens and includes Jamaica, South Jamaica and Rochdale Village.
What are the top three issues for your campaign?
- Housing stability & affordability: Protecting tenants, preserving Mitchell-Lama housing, strengthening SCRIE/DRIE, ensuring seniors and working families can stay in the communities they built.
- Public safety & quality of life: Addressing violence with real solutions, youth investment, mental health resources, and community-based prevention to keep neighborhoods safe.
- Economic opportunity & infrastructure investment: Bringing real investment to Southeast Queens by supporting small businesses, improving transportation, and ensuring major projects create local jobs and deliver real community benefits.
Why did you decide to run for office?
I decided to run because my community deserves leadership that delivers real results and we don’t have time to wait. After years of connecting communities to resources, I’ve seen how often our neighborhoods are overlooked. With an open seat, this is a moment for fresh, accountable leadership rooted in the community. I’m running to protect what we have, fight for what we deserve, and ensure every resident has dignity, opportunity, and a real voice.
What do you believe is the top issue facing voters and how do you plan to address it if elected?
The top issue facing voters is housing affordability and stability. Too many families and seniors are struggling to stay in the communities they built. If elected, I will protect and preserve affordable housing like Mitchell-Lama, strengthen SCRIE/DRIE, and push for stronger tenant protections. I’ll also work to bring real investment into Southeast Queens so residents aren’t priced out, ensuring people can live with dignity, stability, and long-term security
How does your background qualify you to hold office?
My background combines government, advocacy, and community organizing. I served as chief of staff in the NYS Assembly, helping pass legislation and navigate state government. As an organizer and lobbyist, I’ve advocated for policies that deliver real resources to communities. I’ve led outreach for the $20 billion JFK Redevelopment and built strong local partnerships. As founder of The 876 Project and Juneteenth in Queens, I’ve created impactful programs – experience I’m ready to scale in office.
Why should voters choose you over your opponents?
Voters should choose me because I bring both experience and a proven record of delivering for this community. I’ve worked inside government, organized on the ground, and built initiatives that connect people to real resources and opportunities. This campaign is rooted in Southeast Queens – not politics as usual. I’m not just talking about change, I’ve been doing the work. I’ll bring accountable, community-driven leadership focused on results, not titles.
