Campaign Insiders: A Q&A with NY-10 Candidate U.S. Representative Dan Goldman

Dan Goldman

Today PoliticsNY is excited to introduce Campaign Insiders, our latest Q&A series featuring candidates running for office in the 2026 New York primary election. This edition of Campaign Insiders features U.S. Representative Dan Goldman who is running for reelection to continue representing New York’s 10th Congressional District. The 10th Congressional District contains all of Lower Manhattan and a number of Western Brooklyn neighborhoods.

What are the top three issues for your campaign?
Our fundamental rights and democracy are under attack. When Democrats take back the House, I’ll hold the Trump administration accountable for their lawlessness. I’ll work to abolish ICE and end Trump’s assault on immigrant communities. I’ll expand the triage center in my office to free New Yorkers from ICE detention. I’ll fight to make New York more affordable for working families, including with my ROBINHOOD Act, which would ensure the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share.

Why did you decide to run for office?
I never planned to run for office. I went to law school to become a civil rights attorney, and I’ve carried that passion for justice with me since. As a lucky beneficiary of the American Dream, I’m angry about how unattainable it’s become for working families. I ran for office in 2022 to defend our democracy and give everyone access to the American Dream. I am running for re-election to continue to do both.

What do you believe is the top issue facing voters and how do you plan to address it if reelected?
Right now, the most pressing issue we face is an authoritarian federal government led by a president who is determined to destroy our democracy, roll back our most fundamental rights, and concentrate power and money for himself and the ultra-wealthy. We need a bold vision for the future that will not only hold this criminal administration accountable but level the playing field and revitalize our democracy and the American Dream for the next generation.

How does your background qualify you to hold office?
As an assistant U.S. attorney, I spent a decade prosecuting organized crime, corporate fraud, and corruption. I then successfully led the first impeachment of Donald Trump. With our democracy on the line, this experience makes me uniquely qualified to hold Trump accountable for his abuses of power. My record during my first two terms demonstrates that I am a creative, aggressive, and effective member of Congress who will achieve real results in the majority.

Why should voters choose you over your opponents?
This moment demands someone who not only fights but knows how to win. I’ve defeated Donald Trump – from successfully impeaching him to winning a lawsuit to allow Congressional oversight at ICE detention centers. I’ve also devised creative strategies to protect Americans in the face of an authoritarian federal government, including converting my Manhattan office into a triage center to free dozens of immigrant New Yorkers from ICE detention and reunite them with their families.

From now until early voting, Campaign Insiders will be featuring candidates from select democratic primary races across the City & State. Be sure to check back to hear from a wide range of candidates from assembly, senate, and congressional races as well as the NYS comptroller race!
