Maimonides Medical Center’s President and CEO Kenneth Gibbs, along with Chief Medical Officer Dr. Samuel Kopel, and Chief of Urology and Director of the Maimonides Prostate Center Dr. David Silver, recently announced the opening of a new comprehensive Prostate Center at 765 64th Street in Sunset Park.

“Our Prostate Center offers the single most advanced technology available for treating prostate cancer, without radiation and without removing healthy tissue,” said Mr. Gibbs. “We are the only full service prostate center in Brooklyn, and are extremely proud to be the first on the east coast to offer this next-generation HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) treatment.”

According to Dr. Kopel, “The Maimonides Prostate Center is at the forefront of minimally invasive multidisciplinary surgical and medical care – offering men facing a diagnosis of prostate cancer the most advanced expertise and the most customized treatment options available.”

“The state-of-the-art HIFU technology used at our Prostate Center results in fewer side effects by selectively destroying the cancerous cells within the prostate while leaving the healthy areas of the prostate intact and functional,” explained Dr. Silver.

The Prostate Center at Maimonides is a regional leader in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, providing patients with a full range of effective and innovative options. Maimonides doctors trained at some of the country’s most renowned hospitals and were among the first in New York to use robotic surgery for prostate cancer. The center continues to lead with advances like the use of the radiation-free treatment, HIFU, and is the only center in Brooklyn participating in prostate cancer clinical trials – which may allow patients to try a promising new therapy before it’s available to the public.

As a comprehensive care center, all tests and treatments are offered in one central location and patients are able to see multiple doctors in the same day.

Dr. Silver adds, “When it comes to prostate cancer treatment, every man should be asking himself not why should I stay in Brooklyn, but why would I go anywhere else?”
