A congressional candidate who is running for the 11th district seat is starting to look towards November through rose-colored glasses.
Max Rose, a Democratic candidate form Staten Island who is looking to unseat U.S. Rep. Dan Donovan (R-South Brooklyn, Staten Island), has added City Councilman Mark Treyger, who represents an area of the district Rose is running for, to a laundry list of endorsements.
Treyger said the people of his district have been the victim of unfavorable policies. He believes Rose will be a congressman that will bring about change.
“The people of my district have been overlooked by all levels of government for years. With this administration, however, now we’re being punished with higher taxes, our schools aren’t being funded, and less services just because we are New Yorkers,” he said.
He applauded Rose’s service in the military and believes that combined with his experience working in public service, will result in him being a great congressman.
“It’s unacceptable and we need someone with the courage and experience to take on this administration, the special interests, and national Republicans, and that’s Max Rose. He risked his life for us overseas and served our community in the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office and as chief of staff at a large healthcare nonprofit,” he said.
Treyger said that education is a primary concern of his, and he believes that Rose is the right candidate to go to Washington and accomplish
“As a former educator, I know that he will stand up for our schools in Washington. No one in this race will fight harder for my constituents, and for all of New York, and that’s why I am endorsing Max Rose for Congress,” Treyger said.
Rose, who is the first post-9/11 combat veteran to run for office in New York City, said he was excited for Treyger’s endorsement because of his willingness to speak up on issues that affect the people of his district.
“Councilman Treyger has been one of the loudest, and most effective, voices in ensuring the city lives up to its obligations to New Yorkers impacted by Superstorm Sandy, as well as to our students and teachers. From Brooklyn to Staten Island, we are tired of seeing our problems get ignored by the people we elect to represent us in D.C. It’s time for new leadership,” Rose said.
Rose served as a U.S. Army active duty officer in 2012-13, and was awarded a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge. He said if he is allowed to represent the people of the 11th district, he will work to improve the welfare of all his constituents.
In his post-service career. Rose worked for the district attorney’s office in creating programs that worked on community relations between communities and the criminal justice system.
“If I am privileged enough to be elected, I look forward to working with Councilman Treyger to protect our shorelines, keep our schools safe, make healthcare affordable, and ensure our transportation system works for us,” he said.
