A majority of New Yorkers on Tuesday cast their ballots in favor of a measure designed both to shorten the timeline for approving street safety projects, including bike and bus lanes, and make them harder to challenge in court.
Ballot Proposition 3, a change to the City Charter advanced by Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Commission on Government Efficiency (COGE), was approved by over one million New Yorkers — nearly 66% of those who voted — on Nov. 3. It passed along with four other measures that COGE put on the ballot, covering areas ranging from speeding up application timelines for private uses of public space, such as outdoor dining, to simplifying the city’s construction permitting process.
