Mother of slain Bronx boy granted visa from President Trump, says Mamdani

President Donald Trump agreed to grant an immediate visa to the mother of Javits Frimpong, the 15-year-old boy shot to death on a Bronx street last week, following outreach from Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Saturday.

“The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away,” the mayor said. “Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person. I just got off the phone with President Trump, and he has agreed to grant her visa immediately. All of New York City is mourning this tragedy.”

According to the New York Times, the boy, a 10th grader at Dreamyard Preparatory School, a college-prep high school in the Bronx, moved to the city from Ghana last year, and was on his way to school when he was shot.

The development came as city officials, community leaders and local organizations gathered for a community rally on Saturday calling for action to prevent gun violence and support those affected by Frimpong’s death.

Police said Frimpong was fatally shot in the Bronx the morning of Oct. 29, as the search for his killers continues. He was found just before 9:30 a.m. near E. 171st Street and Crotona Place in Claremont with a gunshot wound to his stomach, law enforcement sources said.

Cops rushed the boy in their patrol car to St. Barnabas Hospital, but he could not be saved and was pronounced dead.

Deputy Mayor for Community Safety Renia Francois attended Saturday’s rally on behalf of the Mamdani administration to offer condolences to the boy’s family.

A spokesperson from the Mamdani administration said the mayor spoke with Javits’ father to inform him that Trump had agreed to grant the boy’s mother a visa immediately.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Mamdani administration said it has coordinated support for the family, school and surrounding neighborhood with the city’s Office of Community Safety.

Meanwhile, police said they are looking for three teenage suspects in connection with the shooting. They were last seen wearing all black and medical masks on their faces, running southbound into nearby Crotona Park.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
