Disgraced former City Council Member and Building Commissioner Eric Ulrich used public office as a “stepping stone for corruption” to help feed a gambling addiction, prosecutors alleged in opening arguments at his bench trial in Manhattan Supreme Court Monday morning.
Ulrich faces felony charges in four separate cases against him, including extensive bribery and gambling charges tied to his time as both a Queens Council Member and building commissioner in the Adams Administration across 2021 and 2022. He also faces charges of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree in relation to allegations that he failed to disclose any gifts to the Council’s Conflicts of Interest Board in 2021. Ulrich denies all charges.
