Great Neck Estates pledges to expedite expanded veteran tax exemption

A Vietnam War veteran seeking a full property tax exemption received a supportive response from village officials Monday, as trustees pledged to expedite work on updating the village’s outdated veterans tax exemption law.

Gene Streim, an 80-year-old resident who has lived in the village for 50 years, told the Great Neck Estates Board of Trustees at its Oct. 12 meeting that he has a 100% permanent service-connected disability related to his military service. The Town of North Hempstead has already granted him a full property tax exemption, and he asked the village to extend the same benefit to him.
