Mamdani orders NYPD use-of-force review, accountability reforms after officer in Win Rozario shooting retires before trial

Mayor Zohran Mamdani is ordering the NYPD to undertake a comprehensive review of use-of-force policies and introducing new accountability measures after an officer involved in the fatal shooting of Queens teenager Win Rozario was allowed to retire before facing a disciplinary trial.

The review, announced Monday, will be the NYPD’s first comprehensive examination of its use-of-force policies and practices in a decade, according to City Hall. It will take place over the coming months and include community input.
