Prominent New York Democrats, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, condemned the Trump administration on Monday after federal Homeland Security agents raided the Washington, DC, home of Minnesota U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, just three weeks before the midterm elections.
Ocasio-Cortez — who, along with Omar, is considered part of an informal, progressive faction in Congress colloquially known as “The Squad” — called the search an “unprecedented abuse of power,” while Jeffries and other House Democratic leaders accused the administration of weaponizing federal law enforcement against political opponents.
