Bonnie Lautenberg: Artist, Photographer & Renaissance Woman

Bonnie Lautenberg, wife of the late U.S. Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ), remembers fondly her time in the nation’s capital. “I remember meeting President George H.W. Bush on the lawn for my first White House Congressional Picnic. It was shocking to meet the president of the United States, our president, and he was so warm and friendly.”

A professional photographer turned conceptual artist, Lautenberg has photographed everything from U.S. presidents, including President Bush at that first Congressional Picnic, many elected officials, foreign dignitaries, pop and rock stars and common subjects. She had opportunities to travel around the world in pursuit of her craft and as the spouse of a senator.
