Businesses and workers on Long Island’s East End have been hard hit by President Donald Trump’s harsh immigration policy, which includes arrests and detentions by ICE.
State, county and private statistics show that while 70 percent of the East End’s agriculture sector is made up of immigrant labor, fear of deportation has caused the seasonal migrant workforce to “all but vanish,” according to recent research by OLA of Eastern Long Island, an immigrant rights group. OLA stands for Organizacion Latino Americana.
