Op-ed | If meeting Trump is good for Mamdani, why was it bad for Jeffries?

Last month, President Donald Trump attended the United Nations General Assembly here in New York City. While he was here, Mayor Zohran Mamdani invited the president to Gracie Mansion for a private meeting.

Mamdani said the purpose of his conversations with Trump is straightforward: “how to improve the lives of New Yorkers.” Despite their political differences, that is a reasonable approach. Every New Yorker — Democrat, Republican, or independent — should want the president and the mayor to put those differences aside when doing so can produce tangible results for the city.
