Southampton Village Settles Discrimination Lawsuit for $600,000

Kareem Proctor, a Southampton Village police officer who alleged he was denied a promotion because of his race, will receive $600,000 from the village as part of a settlement resolving a federal discrimination lawsuit.

Proctor, who joined the department in 2008, will receive the lump-sum payment, which includes attorneys’ fees and costs. He will also receive annual front pay in addition to his salary for as long as he remains employed by the village.
