State Sen. Kristen Gonzalez and Assemblymember Diana Moreno have introduced legislation to ban the sale of illegal high-speed electric vehicles known as “e-motos,” stating that retailers commonly market vehicles capable of reaching speeds of 50 mph as e-bikes or e-scooters.
The legislation, S.10700, aims to provide a clear definition of e-motos and require all retailers to warn consumers that the vehicles are not legal to ride on New York State roads. It would also prohibit brick-and-mortar businesses and online retailers from selling the vehicles to New York State residents.
