Menin, Mamdani split over reviving Citi Bike age verification amid privacy concerns

City Council Speaker Julie Menin is urging Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration to revisit age verification for Citi Bike riders, arguing the city should be able to enforce the bike-share program’s minimum age without sacrificing users’ privacy.

Mamdani, however, said Tuesday that he remains skeptical of the idea, citing concerns his administration was briefed on after taking office about the handling of minors’ data and whether age-verification technology would actually work as intended.
