The City Council is making a new push to stem traffic crashes involving e-bikes, e-scooters, and other micromobility devices. A city lawmaker argues that effort must include knowing more about crashes involving the widely popular electric silver Citi Bikes.
City Council Transportation Chair Shaun Abreu introduced a bill Thursday designed to get more information on those incidents from the company that runs the city’s bike share program, rideshare giant Lyft. While e-bikes account for roughly 45% of Citi Bike’s fleet, 72% of Citi Bike trips took place on e-bikes so far this year, according to Lyft.
