Partners in crime-fighting: Mamdani and Tisch tout record-low shootings and murders amid cheers and boos on National Night Out

Mayor Zohran Mamdani crisscrossed the five boroughs Tuesday for his first National Night Out Against Crime as mayor — handing out proclamations, posing for selfies and touting record-low shootings and murders alongside Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, even as the tour highlighted an unresolved debate over whether the city needs more officers.

The tour came little more than a month after Mamdani and the City Council adopted a budget that held the NYPD’s authorized uniformed headcount flat at 35,000 and dropped a previously proposed increase of 580 officers.
