Mayor Zohran Mamdani accused House Speaker Mike Johnson of being “deeply out of touch” on Wednesday after the Republican warned that America risked being overrun by “mini Mamdanis” following progressive Abdul El-Sayed’s victory in Michigan.
El-Sayed, a physician and former public health official, edged Rep. Haley Stevens by less than 1 percentage point in the Democratic primary. The result sets up a November contest with former Rep. Mike Rogers, a Republican, that could prove pivotal in the fight for control of the Senate.
