The Village of West Hampton Dunes will start capping the number of times per year that homeowners can rent their residence — a change that proponents say will make living conditions more comfortable and critics say is unfair to those who have built their livelihoods around renting out their homes.
The West Hampton Dunes Village Board unanimously voted on June 11 to limit the number of times that homeowners can rent out their homes for a total of five two-week-minimum periods annually. The new law will aim to prevent short-term renters that some residents believe are more likely to be disruptful neighbors — and it bolsters village officials’ ability to enforce the laws when landlords don’t comply.
