Some 2,800 people have applied to join Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s new Public Interest Technology (PIT) Crews, an early show of interest in City Hall’s experiment with building digital government services more quickly and with in-house talent.
The administration plans to hire 30 full-time employees across four crews using $5.24 million in baselined city funding. A fifth crew, backed by the Rockefeller Foundation through the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, is expected to add at least five team members. Rockefeller has committed more than $2 million as an initial investment in the broader initiative.
