Mamdani assembles an economic ‘dream team’ to redirect NYC’s powerful development arm toward affordability

Mayor Zohran Mamdani paired veteran city government and business leader Anthony Shorris with progressive antitrust champion Lina Khan on Wednesday to steer the city’s influential Economic Development Corporation away from parts of its traditional development playbook and toward affordability, including making the administration’s planned city-run grocery stores a top priority.

Mamdani appointed Shorris as president and CEO of the powerful development corporation and Khan, the former chair of the Federal Trade Commission, as chair of its board of directors, bringing a months-long search for EDC’s next leader to a close.
