Several elected officials joined dozens of local residents and Community Board 9 (CB 9) members to oppose a planned homeless shelter for single men in Richmond Hill and call on the city to find a “more appropriate location.”
Council Member Lynn Schulman, Assemblymember David Weprin and state Sen. Joseph Addabbo joined CB 9 members and local residents on June 19 to oppose the shelter planned for Jamaica Avenue near Lefferts Boulevard, arguing that the facility would be located in close proximity to several schools and alleging that the siting would create a safety risk for students.
