Council Member Phil Wong joined U.S. Rep. Grace Meng at the Middle Village Post Office on Friday, June 19 to discuss the ongoing resurgence of mail theft impacting residents throughout Queens, including incidents originating from within local post offices, following weeks of conversations.
The two elected officials discussed the steps their offices are taking to assist constituents and coordinate with federal authorities to combat mail theft, according to a press release. Meng previously prompted an investigation by the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General, which led to a series of recommendations aimed at strengthening security and preventing theft. Subsequently, Meng continues to push the USPS to “implement those recommendations and improve safeguards throughout the postal system.”
