Christopher Gallant wins Democratic primary in New York’s 1st congressional district

Christopher Gallant secured the Democratic nomination for New York’s 1st Congressional District on Tuesday, defeating Lukas Ventouras 63% to 37%, with the race called by the Associated Press at 9:59 p.m. and roughly 60% of the vote counted.

Gallant, 37, of Amity Harbor, is an Army National Guard Black Hawk helicopter pilot, volunteer firefighter and Veterans of Foreign Wars post leader who campaigned on expanding affordable housing, protecting equal rights and addressing climate change. During the campaign, he pledged to work with Ventouras regardless of the primary outcome and emphasized making himself accessible through town hall meetings.
