The Village of Great Neck Board of Trustees voted on Tuesday, May 19 to adopt a local law extending terms for elected village officials from two years to four years and shifting village elections from annual to biennial beginning in 2030, selecting the first of two proposed transition options discussed earlier this month.
Under the approved version of the law, the mayor and two trustees elected in 2027 will serve three-year terms, trustees elected in 2028 will serve four-year terms and the village justice elected in 2029 will serve a one-year term before all offices move to four-year terms in even-numbered election years starting in 2030.
