Healthcare workers announced a hunger strike last Thursday until the No More 24 Act (Int. 303) is passed — a last-resort escalation in their years-long effort to end the 24-hour work day and workplace violence that disproportionately impacts women and immigrants.
The bill, introduced by Councilman Christopher Marte on Jan. 29, would prohibit home care employers from assigning any home care employee a shift that is longer than 12 hours, consecutive 12-hour shifts, or shifts totaling more than 12 hours in any 24-hour period.
