On Earth Day, Mayor Zohran Mamdani joined NYCHA leaders and local elected officials at Woodside Houses to unveil NYCHA’s 2026 sustainability agenda, which includes plans for 150 electric vehicle parking stations at 150 NYCHA parking lots and 10,000 eco-friendly induction stoves that will replace traditional gas stoves.
The five-year plan has also outlined a goal to bring eco-friendly electric heat pumps and cooling systems to 20,000 NYCHA apartments in addition to efficient lighting and water features at 45,000 apartments, city officials said. It also includes plans to modernize waste infrastructure and improve air quality at 144 NYCHA properties across the city.
