A number of elected officials and co-op shareholders gathered in Queens Village last week to rally against “unfunded city mandates” included in Local Law 97, which advocates say are placing co-ops in “increasingly precarious financial positions.”
Advocates and elected officials gathered at the Hilltop Village Co-op on Wednesday morning to voice their concerns about Local Law 97, which mandates that most buildings over 25,000 square feet reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030. Advocates say the law unfairly introduces penalties for co-op shareholders without providing the financial aid they say is necessary to upgrade infrastructure.
